Whether it is an engagement ring, gift, or personal ornament, few jewelry pieces are impressive as jewels with Asscher cut diamonds. These rare gemstones can transform pieces into elegant and appealing jewels that suit various outfits and occasions.
What Are Asscher Cut Diamonds?
An Asscher cut diamond has a blend of princess and emerald cuts. It contains X-shaped facets between its center culet and corners, masking some inclusions and lower color grades. Diamond cutters cut about 2% of diamonds worldwide into Asschers, making them rare and precious. Asschers have a clean balance, visual appeal, and an Art Deco air.
Unique Asscher Cut Diamonds Features
Asschers contain straight-edged facets. They can have 58 or 74 well-arranged facets that give them vintage looks. The facets have the same width and length with angled corners shaping them into octagons, making Asschers resemble aggregates of perfect squares and round cut diamonds.
The History Of Asscher Cut Diamonds
Asscher Diamond Company — now the Royal Asscher Diamond Company — created Asscher cut diamonds in 1902. The company named the diamonds after its founders, the Asscher brothers. The original Asschers had 58 facets.
The Asscher family patented Asschers until World War II, when the Netherlands deported the family and confiscated their diamond stock. After the war, only about 15 diamond polishers and 10 Asscher family members remained. The company collapsed.
Louis and Joseph Asscher rebuilt the family’s jewelry company in 1946. The company’s name became the Royal Asscher Diamond Company after Queen Juliana of Holland awarded it the Royal title.
Edward and Joop Asscher enhanced the original Asscher in 1999. They pioneered the Royal Asscher Cut with a raised crown and 78 facets. This stone has improved cut and quality because it uses modern diamond cutting techniques.
